Re-focusing the brand for a playful take on traditional Indian cuisine

Sekkoya shifted focus to provide genuine Indian food inspired by their family recipes. We partnered with their team to realign their brand strategy and visual identity.

Distilling the philosophy

Sekkoya, a contemporary restaurant in Kent, known for its vibrant atmosphere and bold flavours, was undergoing a transformation. The restaurant was shifting focus from its previous Pan-Asian influence to a refined yet playful take on traditional Indian cuisine.

They wanted to provide genuine Indian food inspired by their Mum's (family) recipes, using authentic spices sourced directly from India. More than food, it's a home from home dining experience. The brand positioning needed to reflect this change in direction, from strategy through to the identity.

We started with an immersion session, where we explored their strategy, values, mission and new ethos. Understanding where they were, what wasn't working and where they wanted to be positioned for the future.

Together, we crafted a new philosophy and brand personality that would connect with the local community. 

Genuine Indian flavours, casual modern setting

The new brand embraces the depth and heritage of Indian cuisine and flavours. We explored elements of Indian culture, from traditional symbols and motifs, to a rich palette of colours inspired by spices, festivals and street food markets.

The brand needed to be playful, colourful, fresh, and full of zing! A perfect reflection of the energy and vibrancy of their new look restaurant and menu.

A softer, casual and approachable brand experience, where everyone is welcome. A far cry from a more elitist past.

The tactile nature of the menus were a major focus, serving as a physical touchpoint and the perfect canvas to express the restaurant’s new personality.

Expressing Sekkoya's personality

Both monkeys and elephants hold significant symbolic and religious importance throughout Indian culture.

For Sekkoya they are more than motifs; they are characters in this unfolding tale, connecting guests to the vibrant, playful spirit of Indian culture and cuisine.

They bring a cheeky twinkle to the visual narrative. What could they be up to next?

They are featured within the restaurant itself, blending the digital and physical worlds together.

The mirror effect

One of the founding aspects of the Sekkoya brand is the mirrored ‘K’ symbol.

We developed and pushed this further to make this detail a distinguishable brand element to draw upon creatively throughout the visual language.

The symmetry creates a sense of order, harmony, and visual appeal.
