The Studio is dead. Long live the Studio!

23 August 2022

It’s fair to say that our expectations back in 2015 for how we would use our design and development studio in the heart of the City of Canterbury were somewhat different to where we find ourselves now, some seven and a half years later

More than just an agency office, the studio is integral to the Dodgems and Floss process, the very essence of what makes us, us.

Now, it’s all change, and this time we’re designing a space informed not just by where we want to be in the future, but by who we are and what we have become.

I wouldn’t profess to know what makes the perfect creative space for everyone. But here’s what has informed our journey and design:

  • Work Hard. Arty handmade desks and plush chairs are all well and good, but when you’re locked into a serious piece of content splinters and back-aches are not welcome additions. Sometimes you just need the best tool, even if it’s not the best looking.
  • Relax. You’ll be pleased to know that our beanbags have only ever been used by the canine members of our digital agency. Firing off a few emails or catching up with a colleague or a client needs a decent sofa and a coffee table. We need areas that feel like home.
  • Meet. The Google variety, for us, but whatever virtual meeting app of choice takes your fancy. As such a fundamental tool for business, having the spaces to comfortably and reliably connect and communicate makes important virtual meetings just a little less stressful.

Whilst the scale of the works will leave us in a nomadic state for a few months, I’m not too worried about that, and digital agencies across the board tend to be very well equipped for supporting their clients outside of the office. The most important thing is creating a space that allows us to keep growing, and to keep creating the extraordinary and sublime treasures that we create.

We’ll be sharing pictures and videos as we go, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram to see the transformation!
